Summary: This paper aims to discuss the construction of Campos- Macae channel located in the Norte Fluminense region of the state of Rio de Janeiro, addressing the factors responsible for its installation from the standpoint of capitalist production.
To this end, we adopt the theoretical perspective addressed in part of the extensive work of Milton Santos, as it assists in the assimilation of technology for the analysis and interpretation of spatial production. The aim is to understand how the materialization process of Campos-Macae channel is presented as an element of technical and scientific establishment of the territorial configuration of Campos dos Goytacazes, due to the modernization process happening in the region, the state and the nation.
In this perspective the work aims to assist in the understanding of how to set the refunctionalization process of the original use of the canal as a waterway, under control of the campista and regional rural oligarchy, turning to other uses such as drainage channel and landscape element, seeking to understand their relationship over time with the local and regional society.
