The “Urban and Regional Studies” research division encompasses work that aims to understand and analyze territories, production processes, dynamics and transformations of urban and regional spaces and territories. The research division is directed at understanding production processes in their various dimensions and scales: urbanization as a materiality, forms of city growth, changes in ways of life and the constitution of urban society and metropolitan regions. The area aims to study urban and regional changes arising from economic dynamics, sociocultural, population and political transformations and their impact on everyday urban life, as well as conflicts, fragmentation and socio-environmental risks.
Urban studies are a central aspect of this research division. -
The research division Space, Culture and Languages encompasses theoretical-methodological and epistemological studies aimed at understanding spatialities and bodies in contemporary times, especially in cities. Studies on Food, Health, Cultural and Social Geographies emerge from this field. Languages are considered both as expressive possibilities for these fields of Geography and as broader sociocultural phenomena, in connection with art, social movements and education.

The research division on Territorial and Nature Dynamics focuses on basic and applied research on the patterns of the natural environment and the transformations on the Earth's surface, whether or not induced by humans. It also aims to research the connective processes that exist between natural facts and territorial organization. In this way, it aims to promote initiatives based on the integrated analysis of natural dynamics that can be verified in each environment, configuring procedures for verifying concrete reality through detailed and systematic inquiries that establish facts or principles related to geoscientific knowledge.
The Postgraduate Program in Geography (PPGG) at Ufes offers Master's degrees in Geography and Doctorate degrees in Geography.
It has a single area of concentration, called Nature, Space Production and Territory, and its Research divisions are: Urban and Regional Studies, Territoril and Nature Dynamics, and Space, Culture and Languages.
The program is based in Vitória-ES, offering the course of Master in Geography since 2007 e the course of Doctorate in Geography since 2015 and has an academic qualification profile certified by CAPES, receiving 4 on its last evaluation.
The program already has 206 masters and 54 doctors and counts with 117 students regularly enrolled, being 53 in the masters and 64 in the doctorate.
